Highlights:
Indian engineering exports showed a remarkable growth of 38.3% in 1990-91 over the corresponding year by touching a mark of Rs 3250 crore.
Though efforts continued to tap other emerging markets, USSR, UK & USA remained the major markets for India’s engineering exports during this period.
New items were introduced in the India export basket which included power generation equipments, thermal sets, ships & boats, air craft, cooling towers etc. India also made a dent in the international market with 800 CC cars, particularly markets of Europe like France and Australia in addition to African and east European countries.
New opportunities were explored through various reconstruction projects in Kuwait.
During the 2nd stint of his Chairmanship, Council organised its mega engineering exhibition Indiatech in Colombo, Sri Lanka which was a huge success. Another such exhibition was organised in Cairo, Egypt to tap the growing African market.
A new logo was adopted for the Council in the year 2000.
