The Embassy of India in Cairo organized an India Day in Alexandria on 10th and 11th of April 2018. The event included meetings of H.E. Mr. Sanjay Bhattacharyya, Ambassador of India to Egypt with Governor of Alexandria, Arab Academy for Science Technology and Maritime Transport, Alexandria Businessmen Association and University of Alexandria.
On 15th of April 2018, the India Business Forum members met with officials from the Egyptian Customs Authority. The meeting was chaired by H.E. Mr. Sanjay Bhattacharyya - Ambassador of India to Egypt and Dr. Magdy Abdel-Aziz, Chairman of Egyptian Customs Authority. The discussions were mainly about the recent reforms undertaken by the Egyptian Customs Authority and the anticipated positive outcomes. Indian investors also raised some points of clarification that were clarified during the meeting.
Market Watch
According to an announcement by Egyptian Ministry of Trade and Industry, the World Trade Organization`s (WTO) African Group unanimously re-elected Egypt as the liaison point for the African group in agriculture and in non- agricultural market access (NAMA) negotiations. The re-election is in line with the Egyptian government`s strategy which prioritizes African interests on political and economic issues. Egypt is one of 43 members of the African group, which itself is one of 16 groups formed by WTO member states engaged in agricultural negotiations. Egypt is a member of several WTO groups involved in agricultural negotiations, including the 43-member African group, the G-20 and the G-90. The G-90 consists of the African group, the ACP and the least-developed countries. Egypt is also one of ten members in the NAMA group, which seeks to help developing nations gain a foothold in global markets.
The Egyptian Ministry of Transport announced a project to revamp the national railway network, with EGP 55 billion to be invested up to 2022. According to the official statement, Egypt has signed deals with General Electric for the supply of 100 tractors and the refurbishing of 81 others, as well as access to funding for another 100 tractors. Further, the Ministry is expected to sign deals for 1,300 passenger carriages and 300 others for cargo.

Ambassador visit to Djibouti: on 8th April 2018, Ambassador hosted a reception to commemorate Founding Conference of ISA and the visit of President of Djibouti to India. More than 150 persons attended the event. Minister of Energy of Djibouti, H.E. Mr. Yonis Ali Guedi was the guest of honour.
Ethiopian delegation visit to India: A seven-member Ethiopian delegation led by H.E.Mr. Getachew Adem, Deputy Commissioner, National Planning Commission, visited India from 30th April to 5th May 2018 to gain experience and learn good practices from India’s Public Investment Management.
Ethiopian Chamber delegation visit to India: An 8-member Ethiopian business delegation led by the Senior International Trade Relation Expert of the Ethiopian Chambers of Commerce & Sectorial Associations visited the Vibrant Saurashtra Expo & Summit 2018 (SVUM 2018 International Trade Show) at Rajkot, Gujarat from 20-23 April 2018.
Malta

Exports by India to Malta for the period April 2017-March 2018 stood at US$ 167.50 million and India’s imports from Malta stood at US$13.54 million.
Peru

India expresses its intention to increase trade with Peru (Gestión: 12/05/2018) - The Vice President of India, Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu, affirmed that the Government of his country wishes to contribute to the development of Peru and strengthen its bilateral relations, which are 55 years old. "Peru is an important partner for us in Latin America, we want to strengthen the relations between our governments and congresses," said the vice president during a meeting with the President of the Peruvian Congress, Luis Galarreta. "This visit is made to strengthen bilateral relations that were established years ago," said Galarreta before expressing his desire to promote all mechanisms proposed by the Executive to strengthen trade and economic relations with India.

Status of ongoing major investments by Indian PSU’s / Pvt. Sector in Tunisia and proposed Indian investments in Tunisia
India Tunisia Joint Venture worth US$450 million was launched in 2006 in Tunisia for manufacturing Phosphoric Acid. Its production started in 2013. Two Indian companies Coromandel Fertilizers Ltd and the Gujarat State Fertilizers Ltd have 30% shares in the project. To improve production, Tunisian Government is taking several measures to remove hurdles in the smooth running of the plant and supply of rock phosphate to the plant. The plant management is also is being restructured.
Analysis of Investment opportunities in Tunisia
The flow of foreign investments (January-December 2017) stood USD 939.370. It included $890.735 m as FDI and & 48.6345 m as portfolio.
As per Agency for the Promotion of Foreign Investment (FIPA), the flow of foreign investments reached 224.17 million USD at the end of March 2018, up 25.2%, compared to the same period in 2017.
Status of Trade and investment related issues taken up by the Mission with the Government of Tunisia
Mission has taken up TIFERT issue with appropriate authorities at all levels to ensure smooth functioning of the plant and supply of rock phosphate to the plant.
