chairman

My dear fellow exporters,

According to recent media reports the Government of India is in the process of formulating steel scrap policy to help reduce dependence on imports and aid steel production. This will be on the lines of ‘Melt & Manufacture’ steel technology in USA.

The per capita steel consumption in India remains extremely low when compared to the global average. As per the Joint Plant Committee (JPC) report, India’s per capita consumption of steel stands at 69 kg, against the global average of 214 kg. The Government aims is to take the figure to somewhere around 160 kg by 2030.

Scrap-based steel plants are environment-friendly, energy-efficient and cost-effective and have the capability to produce special high-quality steels. The plants will have the capability to produce special high-grade steels, a prerequisite for `Make in India’.

Engineering exports of India contribute to 36-38% of total manufacturing goods export (~25% of total merchandise export). One of the major input for engineering products is steel in various forms. Availability of steel at affordable prices is a long pending demand of Indian engineering industry. On behalf of EEPC India, we feel that the proposed steel scrap policy will address these concerns of the industry and will help them in becoming at par with their global counter parts.

Asian countries entered the top 5 of Peru`s main export destinations

In 2018, three of the five main destinations of Peruvian exports were Asian. China (first), South Korea (fourth) and India (fifth), reported the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Tourism (Mincetur). It was specified that the United States remains in the second destination of Peruvian exports and the European Union occupies the third place, with a growth, as of November 2018, of 15.6% and 11.2%, respectively. Mincetur explained that the new scenario is the result of the remarkable growth of Peruvian shipments to Asian countries in the last eight years. "The growth of exports to Asian countries is supported, mainly, in the largest shipments of minerals, but also, shipments of non-traditional products, whose participation increased from 8% in 2010 to 11% in 2018." , the Ministry indicated.

INDIA : Another Asian destination that ranked in the top 5 of Peru exports is India. Thus, upto November 2018, Peruvian exports to this country reached US $ 2.172 billion (+ 26%), setting a new record and placing India in the fifth most important destination. Growth was mainly driven by higher shipments of gold (+ 69%), which accounts for 90% of the total exports to that country. In the non-traditional category, the most important were shipments of cocoa (+ 124%) and acrylic fiber (+ 115%).

IMPORTANT

It is also worth highlighting the favorable development of Peruvian exports to Japan, which is located as the sixth destination country. In the aforementioned period, exports to Japan grew 20.5%, totaling US $ 1.983 billion. Japan is the second destination of frozen asparagus after the United States with a significant participation of 34% and reflecting a growth of 35% compared to 2017.

Group Lease forms partnership with tuk-tuk dealer Bajaj in Cambodia

The Nation 08.01.2019

Motorcycle hire-purchase financier Group Lease (GL) is expanding in Cambodia via its subsidiary GLF, which is partnering with Bajaj dealers in the country. GLF is already the exclusive third-party financer for Honda motorcycles in Cambodia.  Tatsuya Konoshita, CEO of Group Lease Public Co Ltd, yesterday announced the agreement between GLF and Bajaj dealers. It allows GLF to finance both new and pre-owned three-wheeler vehicles. Previously in October 2018, GL in Myanmar announced a partnership with Bajaj’s Myanmar distributor to work together on three-wheelers. It has already resulted in 130 contracts from only two dealers. GL in Myanmar plans to expand to additional dealers this year. “This partnership builds upon the success we have had with Bajaj in Myanmar, and shows our ability to try a new product in one market and use that experience to launch that product in our other markets as we continue to expand our network throughout Asean,” said Konoshita.
