chairman

My dear fellow exporters,

The Government decided to go for a phased launch of e-way Bill system and recommended that it be made mandatory for inter-State movement of goods from April 1 this year. The Government declared that the e-way bill requirement for intra-state movement of goods worth over Rs 50,000 would be introduced in phases after looking into the response regarding the same. The issue of making e-way Bill mandatory for intra-state movements was be taken for consideration couple of weeks after the implementation on April 1. The introduction of e-way bill for intra-state will be staggered with only 4-5 states doing it at the first stage. Henceforth, proper time is needed by the government and the industry to adjust with the new system.

This is for your information.

In 2017, India became the tenth biggest trading partner of Mexico with a total trade of 8.35 billion USD – with exports worth 5.02 billion USD and imports 3.34 (complete information is not shared in the Annexure for the lack of item wise details). The rate of growth of trade was unprecedented 33 percent. This is also the first time India has become a part of top ten trading partners of Mexico. It seems India is finally reaching its deserved place in bilateral relations with Mexico. Durango state of Mexico sent the Secretary of Economic Development and Investment to India to explore the business opportunities.

Durango delegation to India

The Secretary, Economic Development and Investment from the state of Durango Ms. Paulina Gonzalez visited Delhi and Mumbai and engaged with several Indian companies, especially in auto parts sector on a 3 day visit. Indian company Sakthi had announced its plan to setup factory in Durango last year.

Trinidad & Tobago

Important India related statements of commercial significance by political leaders, think tanks, chambers, associations etc:

India and Trinidad & Tobago have signed a number of agreements viz. (i) Trade Agreement signed in January 1997 for Most Favoured Nations (MFN) status to each other, (ii) the Double Taxation Avoidance Agreement (DTAA) signed in February 1999 and the (iii) Bilateral Investment Promotion & Protection Agreement (BIPPA) signed in March 2007 for promotion of bilateral trade between the two countries.

Market access:

Based on its geographical proximity to mainland South America and the Caribbean (and US) and supported by regional and bilateral preferential trade agreements, T&T provides good opportunities to exporters from India to access the Caribbean region and beyond. Power supply is abundant at reasonable cost. Opportunities abound in the field of energy, SMEs, ICT, Pharmaceuticals & Medical equipment and consumables, Health, Wellness Tourism, and Ayurveda.

Leading private companies to join minor cities in India
Prachachart Turakij 15.02.2018

Deputy Minister of Commerce Chutima Bunyaprapatsorn will lead trade representatives from the government and private sector in Thailand to visit India from 21st-24th February to attend the UP Investors Summit 2018 and to seek further trade and investment opportunities in secondary cities in India, following Thailand’s strategic partnership policy. They will visit Uttar Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh, meet with the state governors, representatives from the chamber of commerce and Indian investors. In Andhra Pradesh, Chutima and followers will attend a panel discussion with Indian government representatives and the private sector. Thailand will also invite Indian investors to invest in the Eastern Economic Corridor and exchange information with investors from Singapore, Malaysia and Sri Lanka attending this event. She said that she had met with H.E. Mr. Bhagwant Singh Bishnoi, Ambassador of India to Thailand, to exchange trade and investment ideas for secondary cities in India. He has invited Thai investors to invest in Uttar Pradesh, the state with the highest population and Andhra Pradesh, the top ranked in the `Ease of Doing Business in India`. The Indian government also offers investment benefits similar to those of Thailand`s Board of Investment. India’s Prime Minister Narendra Modi is prioritising investment promotion and India will hold activities throughout the year to attract more investment. Thailand is looking forward to reaching agreement on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP), however, becoming a strategic partner with India can be achieved more quickly. A Thailand-India FTA has been in effect since 2004 and in 2017, Thailand’s exports to India stood at $6.4 billion.
