chairman

My dear fellow exporters,

To enhance our economic engagement, India has started the process of signing a free trade agreement (FTA) with the Eurasian Economic Union, which includes Belarus, Kazakhstan, Russia, Armenia and Kyrgyzstan.

The Eurasian Economic Union is one of the important emerging economic blocks, and India is keen to engage more closely with Russia and the CIS countries to further intensify trade and economic cooperation with this region. The joint feasibility with the Eurasian countries has been accepted by all individual countries. Now, trade negotiation would start soon with all countries in the group.

It is expected that the proposed FTA will benefit the people of both regions in short and long-term. It will also strengthen and enhance economic, trade and investment cooperation and promote trade in goods and services.

Yours sincerely,

(Tarvinder Singh Bhasin)

OVERSEAS MARKET INFORMATION

MEXICO

The month of January 2017 was a significant one for Mexico due to the transition in power that took place in its powerful northern neighbor on January 20. Even before the new President elect took office, he had made many proclamations on social media that lead to change the minds on many corporates to invest in Mexico. The economic atmosphere in Mexico has been quite depressing with other factors at play too like the oil price hike, inflation and the weakening of the peso. IMF also drastically reduced the growth rate of Mexico.

However, it can be an opportunity for the rest of the world as Mexico is now trying to diversify its markets and open up avenues into hitherto less tapped economies. This is going to be a good opportunity for India, which can leverage on the large number of investment opportunities in Mexico.

With regard to local events involving the Indian Embassy, India participated in the Intermoda exhibition In Guadalajara which is one of the biggest fashion exhibitions in Latin America. Ambassador of India inaugurated the India Pavilion in this event, which was organized by SRTEPC.
