Indian merchandise Exports to Australia for the period Jan-Dec 2017 witnessed an increase of 26 % over the corresponding period last year. Whereas, during the same period Australian export to India increased by 58.4 %.
Refined Petroleum, Medicaments, Pearls & precious stones, railway vehicles, jewellery, made up textile articles, women / girls clothing, floor coverings, organo-inorganic compounds, articles of apparels & textile fabrics, manufactures of base metal, travel bags and cases, furniture and parts, fixed vegetable fats and oils and Electrical apparatus, in that order, were dominant commodities of export from India to Australia. A notable increase in Indian export during Jan-Dec 2017 was Refined Petroleum Oils (excl. crude) at USD 1.211 billion with an increase of 45.2% as compared to Jan-Dec 2016. Another noteworthy increase of exports from India to Australia is Railway vehicles, attributed to the supply of “Made in India” metro train coaches to Australia at USD 155 m with the growth of 187 % over the corresponding period in 2016. Other notable increases were Organo inorganic compounds, which increased 35.8 % in Jan-Dec 2017 (value USD 72 m) over the corresponding period last year. ‘Manufactures of base metal’ growth in export from India was to the tune of 38.5% in Jan-Dec 2017 (value USD 54 billion) over the same period in 2016.
Export of ‘Coal’ from Australia to India was the main contributor for the increase in bilateral trade between the countries for the period Jan-Dec 2017, compared to the corresponding period in 2016. With the export of coal to India witnessing 61.6 % (Value- USD 7.1 b) increase during Jan-Dec 2017, compared to the corresponding period in 2016, it pushed the overall bilateral trade by 49 %. In value terms, the total trade increased from USD 10.8 b to USD 16.2 b between Jan-Dec 2016 and Jan-Dec 2017. It may be noted that out of USD 16.2 b overall bilateral trade between India and Australia, the export of coal from Australia to India alone contributed USD 7.1 b during the reporting period (i.e 43.7 % of total trade).
Libya

Exports by India to Libya during the period April 2017 to October 2017 stood at US$ 71.40 million and India’s imports from Libya increased and stood at US $ 18.39 million. Trade had decreased substantially mainly because of civil strife in Libya and decrease in oil production due to militia fighting and perennial strikes, improvement . However, in 2017 the import trade is beginning to show growth as indicated in the figures below.
