INDEE BANGKOK 2011 ..... Unique ‘shows-within-show’
Thailand has a well-developed infrastructure, a free-enterprise economy and generally pro-investment policies. India has an FTA with Thailand and this contributed to expanding trade between the two countries. Further, Thailand provides opportunities for Indian companies to do business not only in Thailand but the whole of the ASEAN region. Thailand is also a part of the ASEAN trade block. The bilateral agreement between India and the ASEAN countries will provide newer opportunities to the Indian business community. Under AFTA’s Common Effective Preferential Tariffs (CEPT), ASEAN member countries have agreed to progressively reduce import duties, ranging from zero to 5%, on all products. As an original member, Thailand fully implements CEPT.
The total import of engineering items by Thailand from India for the year 2009-10 was US$493 million. From April-October (2010-11), the figure was an encouraging US$437 million.
The total import of engineering items by ASEAN countries from India for the year 2009-10 was US$4.957 billion. From April-October (2010-11), it was US$4.196 billion.
