Economic Scenario - Italy

Italy is the third-largest economy in the euro zone. In 2015-16, Italy’s economy grew 0.7% as compared to last financial year. The Italian economy is driven in large part by the manufacture of high-quality consumer goods produced by small and medium-sized enterprises, many of them family-owned. Italy is among India's top 5 trading partners in the EU. The balance of trade has been in India’s favour since the early eighties. From 2012-13 to 2014-15, India-Italy bilateral trade enjoyed a stable phase valued around 9 billion USD but in 2015-16 a decline was observed valued at 8.2 billion USD. In current year 2016-17, the bilateral trade appears to be promising and is increasing with value at 8.8 billion USD.

Recently, the 19th Session of the India-Italy Joint Commission for Economic Cooperation was held on May 11-12 in Rome. During the discussions, both sides reiterated the importance of the JCEC towards the development of bilateral economic and trade relations through facilitating dialogue and enhancing cooperation on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
